The Bioresource Processing Institute of Australia (BioPRIA) is a leading research institute dedicated to supporting new industries and transforming established ones through cutting-edge research, education, and industry collaboration.
Located within the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Monash University, BioPRIA builds on a strong legacy of innovation and partnership. It originated from the Australian Pulp and Paper Institute (APPI), established in 1989, making it arguably the oldest research institute at Monash University.
Today, BioPRIA continues to advance research in sustainable bioproducts, renewable materials, and resource-efficient processing technologies. Through close engagement with industry and academia, the institute drives the development of circular and value-added solutions that contribute to Australia’s bioeconomy and global sustainability goals.
