This morning (17 August 2018) the Appita Australian New Speakers Competition took place at BioPRIA, Monash University. There were six outstanding competitors who fought for their rights to represent Australia at the 2018 Pan Pacific Fibre Value Chain conference in Rotorua, New Zealand, 4-6 December 2018.
Maisha Maliha of BioPRIA presented work on Cellulose-based Bismuth Phosphinate Composites as Antibacterial food packaging Material. Her research investigated a new non-toxic bismuth based antimicrobial agent. In this presentation, the antibacterial and water vapour permeability of the composites and the arrangement of the particles within the polymer matrix were discussed and the potential of bismuth-nanocellulose composites as food packaging material was explained.
The Appita New Speakers Contest is a special event in conjunction with the Appita Annual Conference, in which the first-time presenters are given the opportunity to develop their presentation skills and present in front of a large audience as part of their ongoing career development.
